I will not incept the judgement of whether this movie is a flop or a hit, into your mind. I will let you decide that.
At the end of the movie, by the time the totem slows down wobbling, everyone in the theater hoped that it falls down indicating that Cobb has come back into real world rather than getting into another stage of a more reallistic dream.
And that is a success on part of the director as far as I am concerned. Last time around, academy has ignored Christopher Nolan for his Dark Knight. This time, if he is again ignored, academy will be ignored by me. If Chris is not worth it for academy with this, academy is not worth it for me.
Some buffaloes might cringe that the movie is not good enough. Its not good enough for those who got brainwashed by the everyday hollywood crap called action adventure thrillers. For those, who really want to see a sci-fi action adventure thriller filled with romance, go for this. This is worth every penny.
The second point of success for the director is in the fact that he is able to guide us through the different stages of dreams comfortably. The settings were different, the dresses were different and the time frames of achieving tasks were different. Hence, you could travel accross dream stages with out much confusion.
Of course, you would need your own totem in order not to get lost in the proceedings. For me, they were the subtitles. Prepare your own totem, or don't worry, you will find it right there somewhere in the movie.
Even with the aid of my totem, I could follow 75-80% of the movie. I was left with some true doubts and some, that are induced by the director. Or, have all of them got INCEPTED?
